2007 Tournament Rules, Methods and Procedures

Teams:
Teams may compete for prizes in either the GHIN Division, or the Non-GHIN Division. First prize in the GHIN Division is a trip to the
NFL Alumni Super Bowl of Golf. Any team may enter the GHIN Division, but players without verified GHIN numbers will play as “A”
players (see “Handicaps” below). If your team would prefer to compete for prizes in the non-GHIN Division (gross scores, no handicaps
applied), they may elect to do so prior to the start of the tournament.
Sponsor foursomes will be joined by an NFL Alumni player to create teams of five (5) golfers for our scramble competition. Only teams
with five golfers (comprised of four sponsor golfers and one NFL Alumni celebrity golfer) who start and finish the tournament are eligible
to win the trip to the NFL Alumni Super Bowl of Golf. An exception will be made if a team’s NFL Alumni celebrity golfer starts the
tournament but is unable to finish. Teams are responsible for their four golfers and the NFL Alumni golf tournament committee will be
responsible for assigning one NFL Alumni golfer to each group. If there is a situation that is not covered by the above rules, the NFL
Alumni golf tournament committee shall resolve any and all issues in their sole subjective discretion, and such decision shall be final
and binding on all parties.
Golfer Handicap Verification-GHIN Numbers:
In order to "level the playing field" and provide golfers of all handicap levels with a chance to win this tournament, each golfer (including NFL Alumni golfers) must provide the NFL Alumni golf tournament committee with an up-to-date verifiable USGA GHIN handicap number no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2006 (the NFL Alumni golf tournament committee will verify handicaps and assess team penalty points the day before the event). If a golfer(s) (including NFL Alumni golfers) does not have and/or does not provide the NFL Alumni golf tournament committee with such GHIN handicap number prior to such time, then the golfer(s) who do not have a GHIN handicap number, or who fail to provide such number shall be automatically assigned a "0" handicap (regardless of what that golfer's actual handicap may be) and the team handicap and penalty points will be assessed as set forth in the handicap calculation section below. Only five golfer handicaps will be accepted for any one team. If for any reason there is a golfer substitution on the day of the tournament, the substituted golfer will automatically be assigned a "0" handicap (regardless of what that golfer's actual handicap may be, unless that golfer is a replacement NFL Alumni golfer who timely submitted a verifiable GHIN number to the NFL Alumni golf tournament committee, in which case the replacement NFL Alumni golfer's actual handicap will be used). There will be no exceptions to these rules. NOTE: Assigning a "0" handicap to all golfers who do not have a verifiable USGA GHIN handicap number by the deadline is a significant penalty. If you are in a group of golfers who wants to win the tournament, it is strongly suggested that you make sure all of your team members have the required GHIN number by such date (one can be easily obtained at your local course by playing a few rounds prior to the event and entering your scores, but check with your local club pro to verify). Golfers do not need a GHIN number to participate in this tournament and a GHIN number is not required to win first, second, or third place in the tournament, but without a GHIN number by the deadline each golfer will automatically be assigned a "0" handicap, a team penalty will be assessed as set forth below, and it will be more difficult for your team to win the tournament.
Tournament Play:
Scramble format with no mulligans or minimum drive requirements. Each golfer will hit one shot and the NFL Alumni celebrity team captain will select the best of those shots as the team ball to play. Each golfer will then hit one ball from a location that is within four inches (4") of the actual ball location but a golfer may not improve the ball's position (i.e. if in the sand it must stay in the sand) and it may not be placed closer to the hole. If a team has less than five (5) golfers, they still only get one shot per golfer.
Tee Boxes (Men and Women):
Men shall tee off from the Blue tees (which will be covered with mini NFL team helmets) and the women will tee off from the Red tees.
Two Putt Maximum:
Once a team is positioned on the green (note, the ball must be 100% on the green for this rule to apply) each player will take one putt at the hole. If all players miss on their first putt, the team adds one more stroke to the score without putting a second time. Players just pick up and move on without actually putting the ball in the hole. The assumption is that someone would make the second putt, thus the putt is skipped to save time.
Prizes:
The winning five-some in the GHIN Division will be awarded a trip (airfare, hotel, golf, and tee package all per NFL Alumni rules) to the
NFL Alumni Super Bowl of Golf to be held next April (location TBA). First prize in the non-GHIN Division is a trip to play golf with
Seahawks ROH Dave Krieg in Phoenix, Arizona (airfare, 2 nights hotel, round of golf). Other prizes TBA.
Handicapping:
The NFL Alumni golf tournament committee will calculate team handicaps. The overall team handicap is based on the handicap of each team member. The NFL Alumni handicap system is designed to "level the playing field" between teams. Each golfer will be placed in categories "A" through "C" as described below. Each team is allowed one "A" golfer or two "B" golfers without incurring penalty strokes. Teams may play with more "A" or "B" golfers, but penalty strokes will be assessed per the charts below.
If the handicap is based on a slope computation, have your club pro convert it for you. Handicaps will determine A Players (0-8 handicap), B Players (9-16) and C Players (16+). Maximum handicap is 16 strokes. For calculation purposes, handicaps are rounded to the nearest whole number, eg. 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, or 8.5 are rounded to 8.0 and that player is listed as an "A Player", and so on.
The Penalty System:
The key to understanding the penalty system is remembering that each fivesome is allowed to have either one A Player (0-8 handicap) or two B Players (9-16 handicap). C Players (16+) have no bearing on the penalty system.
Penalty Chart:
| Handicaps for "A" Players | Team Penalty |
| 0 | 1.8 |
| 1 | 1.7 |
| 2 | 1.6 |
| 3 | 1.5 |
| 4 | 1.4 |
| 5 | 1.3 |
| 6 | 1.2 |
| 7 | 1.1 |
| 8 | 1.0 |
| Handicaps for "B" Players | Team Penalty |
| 9 | 0.8 |
| 10 | 0.7 |
| 11 | 0.6 |
| 12 | 0.5 |
| 13 | 0.4 |
| 14 | 0.3 |
| 15 | 0.2 |
| 16 | 0.1 |
Penalty System:
1. The Greater Rule
If a team has one A Player and two B Players it will be assessed the greater penalty number based on the Penalty Chart above. For example, if one team has a five handicap (A Player) and two nine handicaps (B Players) based on the Penalty Chart the penalty would be 1.6, the sum from the B Player's penalty #'s (0.8 + 0.8) rather then 1.3 (A Player's penalty #).
2. The Lowest Rule
If a team has additional A players (more then one) or B Players (more then two), the team's penalty would be based on the lowest individual handicaps. For example, if a team has five B Players that means three penalties numbers will be added to the team score. If the handicaps for the five players are 15, 12, 11, 10 and 9, the total penalty would be 2.1 (0.8+ 0.7+ 0.6).
Team Handicaps:
Team handicaps are determined by multiplying the lowest handicap in the group by 0.35. The maximum allowable team handicap is 5.60 (16 handicap x 0.35). If the team's lowest individual handicap is 17 or higher, the team's handicap is still 5.60.
The overall team handicap is determined by adding the team penalty and the team handicap. Remember that the team handicap is always subtracted from the gross score, making it a minus number, while the team penalty is added to the gross score making it a plus number.
Announcing the Winning Team/Ties/Decision-Making Authority:
Regardless of what is posted on any hand-written or electronic scoreboard, the winning teams shall not be determined until the NFL Alumni golf tournament chairman has verified the scores, verified the handicaps, and verbally announced the winning teams to all golfers in attendance at that time. If for any reason there is a tie, then the team with the lowest score on the highest handicapped hole will be declared the winner (e.g. if hole #4 is the No. 1 handicapped hole, the team with the lowest score on hole 4 will be declared the winner). If there is a tie on the highest handicapped hole, then the No. 2 handicapped hole will be used to determine the winner, if there is still a tie, then the No. 3 handicapped hole will be used, and this process will continue for all 18 holes until the tie is broken. In the event there is any dispute, discrepancy, or other scoring issue whatsoever, the NFL Alumni golf tournament chairman shall have full authority to make any and all eligibility and/or scoring decisions and determine the winners. Such decisions shall be final and binding on all parties.
Purpose of Golf Tournament:
While this is a competitive golf tournament with a significant first place prize, all golfers understand and acknowledge that this is first and foremost a charity golf tournament whose purpose is to raise money to further the NFL Alumni's mission of "Caring for Kids." All golfers shall conduct themselves at all times in a manner that reflects the purpose, spirit and intent of this golf tournament.
Acknowledgement and Agreement with Tournament Rules:
By participating in the NFL Alumni golf tournament, all golfers hereby agree to be bound by all the rules, terms and conditions set forth herein, and to abide by all decisions made by the NFL Alumni golf tournament chairman.
